There is an interesting story behind the making of the Local Motors logo - you can pick up elements of the 'Batman symbol' and even the 'Ford oval' in each of the drafts leading up to the final product. In the end, the cuts in the oval and connected letters signified an implied motion of forward progress and resulted in a unique symbol to represent the company.
